Finding your Voice

I'm now working on the tones and subtle forms on the leaves. I was struggling with the technique even after my teacher had demonstrated twice. I erased my initial strokes and reworked the form again. Slowly, the lines began to emerge, the colors blended, it was taking shape.

My teacher remarked, "you are finally getting a hang of the medium. go ahead. you are in the right direction." I could not stop smiling. He also added, "S, by seeing me demonstrate, you acquire the knowledge. Capability develops when you work on it. So it is the knowledge mingled with the capability that will give definition to your work."

I nodded in agreement. "Yes, it makes you sensitive to the subject, the color, the brush, the stroke, every movement, eventually you find your voice."

In my head, I talk to my painting. I find them blossoming every week when I revisit to water them with a flood of colors.
